Ruby

One of the most valued colored gemstones is without doubt ruby—a corundum mineral. Claiming a 9 on the Mohs scale next to diamond, this rich red stone is durable and takes a superb polish. 

The most desirable ruby color is intense red with a  color referred to as “pigeon’s blood” red.  The highest values are given to Burma, followed by Mozambique, Tanzania, Tadjikistan, Vietnam, or Madagascar.
