A 'gem' antique Kashmir sapphire, Victorian Era, yellow
gold ring.
This
gem crystal is 85% tone and shows an excellent 4ct sapphire
face with a perfect 70% depth. The stone is extremely
rich in saturation and moderate to strong in silky texture
creating a lower brilliance. Few in the trade prefer this
rich classic color versus the more sharp electric crystals
with higher brilliance. The stone is moderately included
with a stunning display of differrent variety in silk.
One such 'streamer' is eye visible if you examine closely.
This very small 'streamer' can be seen in the photograph
below (right) in the top left corner of the faceted stone.
The gem is accompanied by AGTA certificate stating Kashmir
origin and natural color.
Viewed with microscope at 50x magnification:
The
internal inclusions include many classic signatures common
to the old Kashmir crystals. Features include streamers
of silk, cracked leather type silk, and rare 'Starbursts'.
You can see the "starburst" type silk and both
"steamer" type silk by clicking the thumbnail
below (left). Photomicrographs taken with our microscope
